Meizu made a loud announcement about stopping the development and production of traditional smartphones. The company claims that the modern market is stagnant and does not see any prospects in traditional phones, so it is completely abandoning them. This decision did not come as a surprise, since recently Meizu has rarely released smartphones, and even those were not widely popular.
Current smartphone projects such as Meizu 21 PRO, Meizu 22 and Meizu 23 have been completely abandoned at various stages of development.
The company promises to continue supporting already released smartphones and claims that existing services and products (for example, Flyme OS, Flyme Auto, Flyme AR and others) will remain unchanged.
Now Meizu will focus on developing artificial intelligence technologies, seeing promise in them. Apparently, until the market hype shifts to another area. It’s unclear what exactly the company will do, but it plans to unveil its first AI device later this year. In addition, the company plans to release improved gadgets using AI in 2025 and 2026.
