ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 (2024) gaming laptop presented in Ukraine: compact, fast OLED, new power connector

ROG Zephyrus G16 laptop from ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) is endowed with a new aluminum body, Slash Lighting matrix illumination on the lid and has the same branded small dimensions with very good performance.

ASUS Zephyrus G16 has a thickness of 1.49 cm and a weight of 1.85 kg. This ultra-thin and ultra-portable computer redefines the realm of thin and light gaming laptops.

This is despite the fact that the Zephyrus G16 is equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 for laptops in the maximum version. We will also have available a configuration with Core Ultra 7 and 4080, 4070, 4060 graphics cards.

Models with RTX 4080 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 are equipped with a special evaporation chamber and two fans. Younger versions do not have a thermal interface in the form of liquid metal and are cooled by not two, but three coolers.

Unexpectedly, in addition to all the necessary ports, the gaming model, which is positioned as a compact, has a card reader!

Zephyrus G16 of the new generation is equipped with OLED panels with a resolution of 2.5K and a refresh rate of 240 Hz. These are matrices with a ratio of 16:10 with a response time of 0.2 ms (so less than a second). With 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color palette and Delta E less than 1. That is, the laptop is more than ready to work with graphics.

The Zephyrus G16 (2024) laptop has an updated chassis, the body is made of aluminum. The keyboard is located at a minimal distance from neighboring components, so it was possible to allocate space for louder speakers. The speakers of the new generation are 25% larger than in the previous generation of the model, and their volume has increased by 47%.

In addition, the notebook is equipped with matrix LED Slash Lighting on the lid of the case, which takes the form of a ribbon running diagonally and shows animated effects with the possibility of customization.

Along with the Zephyrus G16, 2024 comes with a three-month subscription to Xbox Game Pass, which gives access to a library of hundreds of games.

Our impressions

Power connector

A noticeable and unusual update in this model was the power connector. It is now not round, but square, and at the same time, it cannot be said that there has been any gain in terms of size. You can insert the plug from either side, like USB-C. The new connector is only slightly thinner, but so far company representatives say that it also includes more electronics that monitor the temperature and load of the connector to prevent breakage and failure.

Huge touchpad

The model has a huge by modern standards touchpad. It is the same height as the keyboard. The latter is also very civil, with larger buttons, more convenient for typing than games.

2 speakers and 2 woofers

As already mentioned above, there are two speakers and two woofers in the case. The speakers are installed on both sides of the keyboard, and the woofers are on the bottom. In addition to the Dolby Sound nameplate, it is also said that the audio system software monitors the load of low frequencies. What does it look like in practice? In a track where at maximum volume the bass should make the speakers wheeze, they just suddenly don’t. Not to say that this has a positive effect on the quality, but more moderate bass was heard, and the maximum volume was more than adequate. After listening to the laptop during the tests, new observations may appear.

Light strip on the lid

A minor update that brings, in addition to the keyboard with RGB lighting, more individuality. However, it will not be possible to display the variety of pixel graphics as in Anime Matrix at one time. The strip is thin, the LEDs are smaller, the color is only white.

The ROG Zephyrus G16 (2024) laptop is available in Ukraine at a price of UAH 89,999. The configuration with an OLED display, an Intel Core Ultra9 185H processor, 32GB of LPDDR5X-7467 RAM and a 1TB SSD can already be purchased in the official online store of ASUS Ukraine, as well as the company’s partners: Rozetka, Telemart. ua, KTC, Citrus and others, at the recommended price of UAH 124,999. The Platinum White color variant will not be available for sale in Ukraine.
